In 1963, after many years of committee work by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Quebec, and meetings between senior representatives of the largest accounting firms and major consulting practices, it was agreed that there was much to gain by working together to build and standardize the emerging profession of management consulting.
2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CMC-Canada). From those initial meetings in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, the movement to professionalize management consulting began. Ontario and Quebec established their Institutes in 1966, and the first Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designations were awarded soon after.
Now, as we celebrate our 50th birthday, we want to remember our impressive pedigree, and recognize the vision and pioneering work of those who gave generously of their time in building the CMC movement.
To generate pride amongst the members of CMC-Canada and attention from the business community for this milestone, CMC-Canada will have a series of events across Canada to celebrate its 50th. The primary event will be a dinner on Thursday, November 28, in conjunction with CMC-Canada's AGM in Toronto.
To generate additional interest in this milestone, CMC-Canada has created a special ‘Golden Jubilee Award ‘ award, to honour 'builders,' by decade, who were instrumental in the formation and development of the CMC movement.
