In our profession as Management Consultants we are often faced with the challenge of uniting divided opinions within client organizations.
Some believe that their way is the best and fight until all others give way to their opinion; others sit back and say nothing while secretly holding a different view; and still others consider it all pointless and await to see how the outcome affects them personally.
This month we have seen the passing of one of the world’s greatest champions of unity, Nelson Mandela. His focus, patience, vision and tolerance saw one of the greatest acts of unity occur in the restoration of the South African people under his Presidency and indeed beyond, a lasting legacy of what can be achieved when we focus on what makes us the same rather than what makes us different.
Barack Obama’s eulogy referred to Mr Mandela as a ‘giant of history’ – indeed in itself a title of great magnitude, and in many ways ironic as would Mr Obama ever achieved his historic election if it wasn’t for the sacrifice others made to pave the way.
Within ICMCI we have a similar opportunity, to unite over what makes Management Consulting a great profession. To dare to see a different future where Management Consulting standards are global and recognized by government, organization and business and to create a legacy for all future Management Consultants.
So for all those who volunteer their time to their local IMCs, ICMCI and related committees let me say thank you for the sacrifice you make in your time, talents and treasure.
Therefore in this holiday season that approaches, no matter what your faith or how your culture might celebrate or otherwise, I wish you a happy time of laughter, perhaps overindulgence, and peace as you relax with family and friends.
