Newsletter - December 2003
Poised for growth in 2004
This year IMCNZ has achieved its intermediate plans and is very well positioned
now to grow - we plan to double membership within a year and keep adding more
value for members. A tall order you may think - and we'd agree. Highlights for
the year included:
-
Continued administration of the CMC qualification that most members value very
highly.
-
A
survey of members' views resulted in a remarkable 60% response and invaluable
information about what members want of IMCNZ.
-
A
business plan was developed taking account of the survey results - and we're
well on track to achieving the goals.
-
Maurice Ellett attended the ICMCI Congress in Istanbul and brought back vital
information regarding professional development, CMC and competence frameworks,
and reinforced useful relationships with overseas members. The past and new
ICMCI Chairs, Richard Elliot and Barry Curnow, congratulated Maurice and IMCNZ
on our continuing contributions.
-
We
have two new Councillors, Rachel McInnes from Auckland and Murray Compton from
Christchurch - you'll hear more about their roles next year.
-
Membership now includes free printed or online subscription to the leading
Consulting to Management (C2M) magazine.
-
The
Constitution was modified to allow electronic 'attendance' at meetings and
update membership criteria.
-
An
ethics framework is being established together with an ethics committee and
process.
-
A
relationship has been established with Management magazine resulting in an
article in this December issue about IMCNZ and flagging our national survey on
management consulting (see below). An article analyzing the results from the
survey is planned for the March issue with more articles to follow.
-
A
visit from Richard Elliott, ICMCI President, and Caroline Barker, UK
Professional Development Coordinator provided invaluable advice.
-
The
membership process has been strengthened. A new application form is on the
IMCNZ website.
-
The
number of members and visitors accessing the IMCNZ website at
www.icmnz.org and accessing information has doubled. Over half our
members have registered details of their services that can be found through
the sophisticated search engine.
-
Plans
are being drawn up to carry out the CMC accreditation audit, together with
professional development requirements for all CMC members.
-
Many
visits to promote IMCNZ have been made to consulting companies and
organisations associated with management consulting.
All together, we think that IMCNZ is a worthy representative of the management
consulting profession in New Zealand, and is adding considerable value for its
members. But we have much more to do next year, including professional
development, extending the IMCNZ profile, increasing membership, completing the
ethics framework, planning the CMC accreditation, providing for more and better
communication between members and much more.
We are very grateful to those members who have interviewed applicants for
membership - we plan to have many more interviews next year. To maintain this
level of services and value considerable funds are required in addition to the
effort provided without charge by Councillors and members. Some $7,000 of our
reserves has been used this year. As such there will be an increase of $60 to
the annual membership fee, taking it to $240 plus GST representing the value
IMCNZ has added this year and with the intention of balancing the budget for
next year. This fee level is half what most professional institutes charge, and
Council expects that this time next year we will demonstrate even more and
better services, and may apply another increase in fees commensurate with the
value added.
Please complete the national survey on management consulting - and ask your
colleagues and clients to as well
The survey takes about five minutes to complete online. Developed in
conjunction with Management magazine, this represents a major promotional
opportunity for IMCNZ as well as a means of gathering valuable information from
both management consultants and users of management consulting services. Please
complete the survey yourself and encourage as many as possible of your
management consulting colleagues, clients and others interested in the subject
to complete the survey. Access is via the home page on the IMCNZ website,
www.imcnz.org.
Best wishes for a happy Christmas and a successful New Year
We know some of you
have had a very busy year, and others have had a shortfall in work necessitating
more focus on marketing. Either way, all the members of Council and National
Secretary Suzanne wish you a very happy and relaxing Christmas, and a healthy
and successful New Year.
On a personal note,
President Peter Senior said how much he appreciates all the effort put in by
IMCNZ Councillors and Suzanne. Without this extraordinary and selfless effort,
IMCNZ would not exist, and we and our profession would be much the poorer for
it.
